In 1859, Queen Isabella II granted Juan Nepomuceno the title of Duque de Regla and the title of Grandeza de España. The new duke thus linked a family history rooted in New Spain with the highest rank of Spanish nobility. Since he died without children in 1862, his niece María del Refugio Romero de Terreros y Goríbar succeeded him. Her marriage to Eduardo Rincón-Gallardo y Rosso brought together two important Mexican families.
