Family history Marquês de Barbacena
Marquis of Barbacena
Felisberto’s greatest task occurred during the period of Brazilian independence. As a skilled ambassador in London, he negotiated international recognition and financial matters for the young empire. In 1825, Pedro I appointed him Visconde and in 1826 Marquês de Barbacena. Later, he served as Senator, Council of State, and Minister of Finance. Another glorious mission took him to Europe, where he mediated the Emperor’s marriage to Amélie of Leuchtenberg.
